quick tips when
Proposing
-
The afternoon light — especially the hour before sunset — is soft, warm, and incredibly flattering. It’s a dreamy time of day that creates stunning, natural photographs and gives you both a few peaceful moments together.
-
Bring a spare shirt or outfit for yourself, and if possible, sneak in a favourite comfortable dress or outfit for your partner to change into after the proposal. It gives you both the chance to feel a little more polished for your engagement portraits.
-
When you’re proposing, take your time. Stay down on one knee for 15–20 seconds so I can capture the emotion and reactions. You only do this once so savour it, say a few loving words, and enjoy the moment.
-
After the “yes,” I’ll give you a few minutes alone before introducing myself. Use this time to hug, cry, laugh. Whatever feels right! These in-between moments are often the most beautiful.
-
Once things settle, your partner may want to take 5 minutes to touch up makeup or fix hair before we begin some relaxed portraits together. This also gives you a breather to take it all in.
-
You don’t need to perform or pose. Just be yourselves. I’ll guide you gently when needed, but the best photos come when you’re simply connecting with each other.
-
If the weather shifts, don’t stress. Sometimes a bit of wind, mist, or overcast sky makes for the most cinematic images. I’ll adapt to whatever the conditions bring. If the weather is not playing to our favour, I’m more than happy to reschedule.
